Buck Knives 286 Bantam BHW Folding Knife

Description

When the job demands a larger, more robust blade without the burden of extra weight, the Buck Knives 286 Bantam BHW (Big Heavy Weight) steps up to the challenge. As the largest model in the highly popular Bantam series, the 286 BHW is a heavy-duty folding knife designed to tackle demanding outdoor, hunting, and utility tasks. Despite its substantial size, it remains remarkably lightweight and pocket-friendly, making it an exceptional choice for those who need a full-sized everyday carry (EDC) tool.

The foundation of the Bantam BHW is a broad, 3 5/8-inch drop-point blade made from Buck’s trusted 420HC stainless steel. Treated with the industry-renowned Paul Bos heat treatment, this blade offers supreme edge retention, excellent corrosion resistance, and structural strength for heavy slicing and piercing. The contoured handle is molded from durable, glass-reinforced nylon with a textured surface for an unyielding grip in wet or muddy conditions. Featuring a rock-solid mid-lockback mechanism for absolute safety, dual thumb studs for swift one-handed deployment, and a lanyard hole for versatile carry options, the 286 Bantam BHW represents the pinnacle of American-made utility and value.

How To Use

  1. Opening: Grasp the handle securely. Use your thumb to push against the thumb stud, rotating the blade outward until the lockback mechanism engages with a confident "click."

  2. Cutting: Leverage the large belly of the blade for smooth, sweeping cuts or the sturdy tip for piercing tasks. Always cut away from your body and maintain a firm grip on the textured handle.

  3. Closing: Hold the knife firmly, taking care to keep fingers away from the blade path. Press the lock release bar located on the spine of the handle, then use your other hand to gently fold the blade closed.

  4. Maintenance: Keep the pivot point clean from debris and apply a drop of lightweight oil periodically. Wipe the blade clean and dry after field use to maintain the integrity of the stainless steel.
