Description
The AustriAlpin Fifty:Fifty is a highly innovative HMS belay carabiner designed to solve one of the most common safety hazards in climbing: cross-loading. Built for climbers who prioritize absolute safety, this carabiner features an ingenious internal spring-loaded wire clip that divides the inner space into two separate compartments. This clever design traps the harness belay loop in the lower section and the belay device in the upper section, ensuring the carabiner is always correctly oriented along its strongest axis (the major axis) and preventing dangerous lateral loading in the event of a fall.
Forged from high-quality, lightweight aluminum, the Fifty:Fifty is equipped with a reliable automatic locking mechanism (Autolock) that requires multiple deliberate actions to open, virtually eliminating the risk of accidental gate opening. The classic HMS (pear) shape provides a wide, smooth radius for ropes, making it perfectly compatible with all standard belay devices or for use with an Italian/Munter hitch. Whether you are at the local climbing gym or on a multi-pitch alpine route, the Fifty:Fifty delivers unparalleled peace of mind.
How To Use
-
Opening: To open the carabiner, perform the required sequence for the Autolock (typically twist the sleeve and pull the gate open).
-
Attaching to Harness: Clip the carabiner onto your harness belay loop. Push the harness loop past the internal spring wire clip so it rests securely in the bottom compartment of the carabiner.
-
Attaching Belay Device: Clip your belay device (e.g., tube-style device, assisted-braking device) and the climbing rope into the top compartment of the carabiner.
-
Safety Check: Release the gate and visually verify that the Autolock sleeve has fully engaged and locked. Ensure the belay loop is trapped in the bottom half and the belay device is in the top half, keeping the carabiner aligned perfectly straight before the climber leaves the ground.
